CASH

About TANF

TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) provides cash benefits to low-income families with children. These benefits help meet a family's basic needs like food, clothing, rent and utilities while they work toward self-sufficiency.

  • Benefits are issued on an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card. This is also called an Oregon Trail Card. It can be used like a debit card.
  • The maximum monthly benefit for a family of three is $506.
  • Most people who get cash benefits are also in the JOBS program. This program helps people find a job.

Clothing Allowance Payment Notice Error

To families receiving TANF: If you received a notice dated June 7, 2023 stating your family would receive a Clothing Allowance Payment in June, this notice was sent to you in error. You will not receive a payment in June 2023.

We know this error may have caused confusion and distress. We are deeply sorry for the harm this may have caused. No families receiving TANF need to take action or pay back any Clothing Allowance money.

The Clothing Allowance Payment is for families receiving TANF. Families can use the money to pay for their children's clothing needs as the seasons change. The next Clothing Allowance Payment will be sent in August 2023. Eligible families will receive a notice in August 2023.

If you need help covering your family's needs, please contact your ODHS Family Coach. They may be able to help with your needs, answer questions you have or connect you to other resources. You can reach your family coach by calling your local office.
